Summer Schedule in Full Swing

Brody Fischer spent the winter preparing for a summer filled with qualifying events.

That preparation is being tested as Fischer is in the third week of a 14-week tournament schedule.

He’s especially looking forward to Monday’s event, the Air Capital Classic Open Qualifier at Crestview Country Club in Wichita, KS.

Fischer’s sponsor, Lifestyle Health Plans, is headquartered in nearby Kansas City and he expects to spend some time with CEO Dan Whitney.

“Hopefully I’ll be able to play golf with him and hopefully he can make it out to the event on Monday,” Fischer said. “It will be nice to be down there and hopefully I can play well in front of him.”

Fischer has plenty of momentum heading into Monday’s action.

He was four-under par at the turn and settled for a 72 at the Rex Hospital Open qualifier in North Carolina on May 29 then carded a 78 at the Rust-Oleum Championship qualifier in Chicago a week later.

“Everything is in place,” Fischer said. “I'm pretty excited. I'm pretty positive.”

Prior to heading to Greensboro for the Rex Hospital Qualifier, Fischer swapped drivers and focused on his consistency.

That work paid off as he opened the event with three birdies and six pars on the back nine. He closed out the tournament on the front where he recorded a birdie on No. 1 before finishing with four pars and four bogies.

“When you’re four under making the turn, you try not to think and you just try to play golf,” he said. “I think I got a little excited. It was the best I had been playing in a while and definitely in a tournament and I just started pressing a little bit. I was like, ‘Let’s get this to five or six under and win this thing,’ instead of just focusing on making a couple of birdies and playing my own game. I don’t think I really tried to do that but knowing myself and the competitor I am, I probably pushed a little too hard.”

The confidence he gained in his first nine holes carried over to the Chicago event, where he played well despite the higher score.

Fischer finished six strokes higher than he did a week prior but even the qualifying scores were six strokes above the mark in Greensboro due to the Windy City living up to its name.

“Chicago was interesting,” Fischer said. “The scores compared to the week before were on average six strokes higher. I shot six strokes higher and the qualifying scores were six strokes higher. It was a super windy day and the golf course played tough. I played well. It's weird to say that about a 78 but I really played well. I doubled the last hole, which again, I talked to my dad about that. 'I've got to stop doing that.' I get to the 18th hole and I think if I make an eagle I'll have a shot. Of course you try to do that and you crash and it goes the wrong way.”

Heading into Monday’s action, Fischer is confident he’s getting closer and closer to making the cut.

“It comes down to playing all 18 holes and hitting the ball in the hole all 18 times in the least number of strokes possible,” he said. “I'm close, I really am.”

Next up is a June 19 stop in Springfield, IL for the Lincoln Land Charity Championship qualifier followed by a June 26 trip to Nashville, TN for the Nashville Golf Open Qualifier.
