The Westward Movement

Brody Fischer's trip to Scottsdale, Ariz., provided plenty of ups and downs.

Fischer made the 26-hour trip from South Bend, Ind., to Scottsdale early in January with plans to spend three months in the Valley of the Sun.

He was extremely excited to begin this next chapter, thanks to his sponsors at Lifestyle.

"I cannot express enough how thankful I am to have this team of people with me," Fischer said. "I truly feel that almost everything is in place for us to head down the road of golf success."

Upon arriving in Scottsdale, Fischer joined the Raven Golf Club, which included unlimited practice ProV1 range balls and playing privileges. He'd take advantage of that membership deal throughout his three months of playing and training.

Fischer and his friends and family made a road trip to southern Los Angeles to spend a few days playing golf and bonding.

"Those two days were a great way to kick off the year and gave Dan and I a chance to get to know one another," Fischer said. "We were able to mutually answer some questions about the golf and business side of things. I got to know more about the Lifestyle brand and everything there is to offer."

Fischer's first tournament in Scottsdale got off to a great start.

He hit 18 of 18 greens at the Ocotillo Golf Resort and posted an opening round of 69.

Things took a turn for the worst over the next two rounds.

"A couple water balls here, a few bad breaks there," Fischer said. "I couldn’t get back on track and before I knew it I had posted a 75 and finished the final round with a 78."

He spent the day after the tournament on the putting green and working out some kinks with his long irons.

The second tournament provided a challenge at the Golf Club of Estrella, a demanding course on its own. It didn't help that Fischer had his own struggles.

"I was fighting my swing and not letting the club do the work," he said. "I started to get a little too mechanical and instead of just swinging I was trying to steer the ball to where I wanted it to go."

He finished with a 79 on Day 1.

"I have never taken so many unplayables," Fischer said. "The desert won that day."

He bounced back on the second and third days of the tournament.

He opened with a plus-4 after three holes but finished with an even par 72 on the second day and a 71 on the third.

"All in all, not the start I would have hoped because I haven’t finished in the money through two events," Fischer said. "I do feel that I am getting to a comfortable point in the game and things are looking up going forward."
